how do u do it?

A method that is also popular which i did was to place one end of the airline tubing in the top of the u of the overflow box and the other end connected to a powerhead that has an attachement for it. It just sucks the air right out. Though not all powerheads can do that so you may have to suck on it to get it started but air does creep into the j of the tube and I found that the powerhead is the best way to keep it out.

No air in the U tube for me so far, my buddy has that problem. They make overflows with a powerhead that does that job all the time.

Can't say i've ever seen an over flow that comes with a powerhead, but some do come with little airline hose plugs on the top to allow this.
