Me and a buddy of mine were thinking of starting to breed feeders for our fish...are fathead minnows or rosies easier to breed or are they about the same?? any tips on breeding any of the two??

i think rosies are albino fathead minnows, but if you dont need big feeders just breed guppies because the breed all the time?

Personally I would go with convicts. I get about 100 every 2 weeks or so and they grow fast. Guppies are cool too but the max size is too small for my shovelnose.

What do you use to breed the convicts in?
I have a series of 6 20gal. tanks. It starts with a mated pair in the first one and when the fry are free swimming they go into the next tank. When another batch of fry is produced, the first batch is moved to the third tank, the third to the fourth and so on until the last tank are tossed into my main tanks as feeders. Right now they get to be 11/2" - 2" long when they are fed to my fish. In the future I'll add more tanks in the series to raise them bigger as the ones that eat them get bigger.

Thats a great idea, ill have to remember that!

If you want to use rosies just get one of those preformed 150 gallon outdoor ponds and throw in about 100 rosies and give them plenty of plants but no surface plants so it is easier to catch them. Then give them a few weeks to establish and start breeding. Then start catching and using. You can even try this on a larger scale with maybe 200 or more fish.
