This is my first time using a sump.
I've got my tank filled to just below where it'll overflow into the weir. Sump is filled to about where I'd like it to run at.

Do I fill the overflow box with water right away before turning on pump?
Do I leave overflow box empty and let the pump drain water from sump to fill overflow and then top off sump?
Sorry if dumb question, just want to start it up the right way.
Thanks.

Yes, you can fill the overflow or start the pump or both. Either way, you will need to adjust the water level in the sump. If you have the tank in a living space where flooding would be a major concern then start the pump and add water to maintain a level above the pump inlet. Once you have flow shut the pump down and see how much water returns to the sump.
