ok guy's and girls of mfk

i heard some where and i might be on this site that if you starve your flowerhorn yo can pop his kok faster which doesnt not make any sense so clear me up and if it's true explain why becouse i could never not feed my fish, i lke to eat and so does he :screwy:

Never heard of this, and it was certainly not on this site that you read it. The FH's KOK is composed of fatty tissue. The logical effect of starvation would be for it to break down fats for energy, so less kok.

I said that one here many times. I'm not going to try to prove anything to you guys either, starve your fish for a day and watch his head grow. It's not really "starving" your fish either. They can go a long time without eating.

Ah ok, I thought OP meant long term starvation.

why does it make the head grow, i would assume that the more you feed it and the better the food the faster and better the kok would grow! camph explain your theory....

You could do search for his theories i bet there's atleast one thread on it.

it's a known that regular "fasting" of cichlids does improve health, color, and protects against illness.

if we feed our fish everyday a few times a day that fish's main goal in life is to eat process that food asap and eat more. the constant metabolism process kinda robs and misdirects good nutrition that certain parts of the fish needs. the process of the "fasting" allows proper digestion and nutrition to go where it is suppose to go, and not straight out the butt. for the "fasting" to yield good results you need to figure out a routine pattern to get the fish used too. maybe feed 2 days, no feed 1 day, or even feed 1, and not feed 1. i've even heard of people doing 1week feed and 1week no feed.

I'll vouch for what Cam is saying. I do my weekly water change and then fast my fish for 24-36 hours, and in addition to all the things fishfreak mentioned, the head also pops a bit.
