i know that there has to be a reason for the instant change in his attitude. the pleco i have that is over a foot is becoming really hungry all of a sudden. i took the un unnecessary filtration off the tank to see if this will help, but he keeps swimming around trying to eat anything that stays still long enough even my cats have to fight him off there back. i have been throwing in some algae wafers a few times a day to just keep him happy because i really dont want him to strip any of my fish nor do i want to rehome the pleco. any help is great.

My old foot long pleco used to sit at the top of the glass siphoning pellets into his mouth during feeding time, maybe u can try supplementing the wafers with pellets if he'll come to the surface

ah good idea, he comes up to the surface at times as is so if he is that hungry mabe he will try a pellet or two. is massavore delite a bad thing?

My pleco (who is just a 4 inch bristlenose) goes totally bonkers when I add in peeled, de-seeded, finely chopped orange into the tank; she tries to steal as many as she can and takes them over to her corner where the driftwood is placed and my other fish can't fit so she can gorge.
Make sure you consider the fact that a pleco needs feedings like any other fish you own and feed accordingly.

I believe plecos are also into bell peppers and maaaybe potato slices as well if you wanna throw those in the tank, maybe weighted down somehow.

Plecos need a varied diet. And they are big, so need a decent volume.
Are you feeding enough? A few wafers here and there isn't sufficient.
Some fresh vegetables 2 or 3 times a week (marrow, cucumber etc) and catfish pellets or similar on a daily basis and it will be fine.

im feeding the cats every day and the pleco is getting them i never considered veggies. the cats will leave it alone for the most part i bet and he will have something to eat of his own. it seems that he is calmer today and im not sure if that is the lesser filtration or the additional pellets yet but also this am i had to clean up literally about six feet of pleco poop in multiple spots :)

I have an almost 18" Pleco in a tank with some other fish (10" Oscar & 9" Green Terror). I don't feed him anything special...I actually don't feed him anything at all. He just eats what he can find on surfaces & the glass...and whatever falls to the bottom when feeding the other fish.
