Hello all

I currently have my 3" Rainbow in with some birchir, and I am very worried he is not getting enough to eat. The birchir's are such greedy feeders, anything that hits the floor is wiped out pretty quick.

I have seen the SH feeding, but he only seems to feed when the food is floating, and as most meaty foods sink quickly, he does not get much.

Should I be worried? And are there any suggestions for floating foods that a SH will take?

All advice appreciated....i am a SH :newbie: !!!

in a word yes. when i first started to keep fish i had the same problem with a fire eel,he was wasting away i had to buy a new tank for the eel, with in a few weeks he was back on top:)

best thing to do is hand feed him cut up little bits of cockle and prawns and and wait untill you can drop it in front of his head

if you are wanting a moveing floating edible item then look no further than crickets
dont feed them as a main diet but the work well for a treat

I tried this, unfortunately I seem to have the worlds most nervous SH..... keeps scooting off evrytime I open the lid!!

is your tank well planted, dwarf snakeheads settle down and stop being less skittish if they have some cover

yep cobra is bang on there, you will see a big change in there behaviour with a lot of plants and caves

you can always try getting him onto pellets.
i had a rainbow.
not very skittish though.
use a stick with the food on it and put it in his face.
give him lotsa cover.
