A member thought it would be interesting to see how big members have grown their arowanas and what tank size they use to house them throughout their growth. Please be specific.

This thread is not intended for flaming or ridiculing others. It is for factual educational purposes. That means negative comments will be deleted. Idle chit chat will be deleted.

Also where possible include a timeline for your aro's growth.

I'll start.

22" RTG asian aro.

Initially housed in a 150g at 10".

Moved into a 180 at 15".

Moved into it's current home at 16-17" which is a 8x3x2.

I am also growing out 3 smaller asian aros. One is in a 6" 125, another in a 5x2x2 150 and the other in a 6x2x2.

edit to add the following:

Flitration consists of wet/dry/canister combos on two tanks, and two canister filters on other tanks.

Water changes are 25% weekly. Diet consists of superworms, market shrimp, massivore pellets, NLS wafers, tilapia, scallops.

Please note: not all aros eat all the above mentioned foods. Only the 22" RTG eats everything.

Pics to come soon.

Heres mine:

14" silver arowana- Tank size is 150g (72x18x28), filtration is Fx5 for bio/mechanical and Xp4 for all bio. Water changes are 50% every 4 days or sometimes twice a week.

Diet consists of market shrimp, freeze dried krill, some pellets and earthworms (that are supposed to be for my motoro)

I just recently acquired this beauty approx. 3 weeks ago.

Future plans: We are currently in the process of moving and when I refinish the stand and canopy, it will be going into my 240g.

2 foot silver in 2 m x80

2 x 50 centimetres Asians , one in 2 metres x 80 and 1 in 2 metres x 60

Filtration by sumps, in sump fluidized sand filters, fluidized bio pearls filters, cannisters, UW lights, Wet dry towers, Refugiums.

A healthy water change schedule.

Thank you. Although I have no interest in raising Asians, as I'm in the US, do you have a timeline for growth?

No time line, but I think if I went through my photos, which are all categorized by date, I could come up with an idea of a timeline.

Asians typically grow somewhere between half an inch to an inch per month up until they hit about 18-20", and then they seem to slow down in growth and convert their energies into developing mature coloration. Growth rates are very dependent on bloodline, water quality and aro's appetite. In my own experience, they tend to be less fussy as they get bigger.

I will see what I can dig up in my files.

I got a 7-8" Jardini in a 125 gallon. Been in there for about 6 months. Eats bloodworms and earthworms. About a 9X turn over for filtration including a UV filter. 2 power heads on each side of the tank. 25% weekly water changes. It's got a few tank mates as well. A 14" clown knife, a 12" fire eel, 4 datnoids 3-6", one 8" pleco, one 5" pleco and 7 clams.

No specific future plans because it will be a while until all the fish are full grown. Obviously all these fish cannot be in there for life.

2-30+ silvers arowanas, 1-26" black arowana, 1-18" jardini arowana in a 400 gallon 8x4x20''. i will take and up-load pictures soon
housed with 3-8" motoro ray pups , 2 30"-36" fire eels, 3-10" indo dats, 2-8" severums, 1 20" ornate bichir. Although the ornate is sold upon pick-up.
