Saw a similiar thread in the arowana section and thought it might be useful to have a collective thread of everyones gar - tanksizes.

This thread is not intended for flaming or ridiculing others. It is for factual educational purposes. That means negative comments will be deleted. Idle chit chat will be deleted.

If you wish to include pics do limit it to ONE pic per set up. Any subsequent pics will be deleted.

If you are looking for a specific member's gar profile, check the list below for their post numbers

I really don't remember the timeframes like that, but I could do a current one if it will help.

Go ahead, that's just how I wanted to do it. Haha

I just picked up a Fla Gar two weeks ago...It is about 10" and is in a 220 with a handful of small cichlids, and a pair of Nics.

hey xander (may PM you about this further - and feel free to delete when eventual clean-up comes around), i see how you posted your info and michael's comment as well. i think it would be most effective to have a standardized format for this as i think you initially posted (tanks/gars/period of time and/or age if known). this way it is an easy-to-read format and generally useful to others for reference.

also seems logical to just use current tank setup at this time and forward as opposed to listing previous tank setups which are generally irrelevant. just my take on it, but in terms of listing useful information in simple format, i think it would work well--

125g Tank (72Lx18Wx22T)
1 Shortnose gar (~22")
3 Florida gars (14-18")
(Other tankmates as well)

3,500g outdoor pond (15Lx7Wx3-4D)
3 Shortnose gar (20-24")
1 Spotted gar (14-16")
2 Koi (6-8")
XXX Minnows (2-4")

Hopefully all gar will be combined in either the 3,500g pond, or a 220g tank (72Lx30Wx24T) in the next 4-6 months.

2 FL gar 17"-18"
mid August 2010 picked up at 10"
housed in a 750g (10x4x2.5)

Well I only have one gar left. 26" Tropical housed in a 750g. 120x48x30. The east coast gar hoarder has the rest of them

24" tropical gar, grown out in a 120 (4x2x2) until about 19"; then 7x2x2. Hopeful upgrade for "forever" will be 8x3x4
