Status of the Black/Blue Arowana

What exactly is the status of the black aro? I know we see less and less of these beautiful creatures in our lfs, but is the restriction to their export really that serious that they command a $500 price tag?

The reason I'm asking is I was at Tropic Isle on Saturday and they had "Blue Arowanas" for $500 a piece. They are about the same size as the guy I bought from Infinite Aquatics for $150.

What are people seeing for prices in their area? Is $500 a common retail price for anyone, or is it just inflated like everything else in the Boston area.

at pets plus about $250 he's 14"....tropical isle has crazy price.

usually $200-$250 here, but i have seen a 20 inch go for $350.

Yeah, I heard that the whole common name change from "Black Arowana" to "Blue Arowana" was used to somehow get around the export restrictions.

My LFS had one baby Black (3+ inches no yoke sak) listed for $99.95. Checked in the following week and it was sold.

i bought one for $200 at about 7-8" this year from my lfs.

I haven't seen one in a LFS since I bought mine which was 14 months ago.

well they are out of season now or soon anyways.I know have two of these and wouldn't mind a third.
