I feel odd making this post, i see no reason to be negative - but wow, i was horrified at what I saw at the closest pet store near me. It's called the "Exotic Pet Warehouse" in Yonkers, NY and its terrible. Dirty tanks, clearly unhealthy/dying fish, and some real head scratchers. They had an arowana housed with another fish... "had", being the operative word because when I got there, the bottom of the arowana was missing, eaten by this mystery other fish. They hadn't noticed. "What's the other fish?" - they didn't know. Jesus, blech.

I feel stupid posting this, cause anyone smart enough to be on this forum is probably smart enough never to buy anything from a place like this - but seriously, this place bothered me. poor fish.

Sure seems to be the case in this town...The best stores in this city have closed down (Zoos,Martins Aquarium,World Wide Aquarium and Pets)and there is this one little rat hole that has outlasted them all.

that sucks man. however i have also been that guy to rescue a nice looking fish from a tank that look like garbage thats how i got a pacu. in a 75 gal. its in a better tank now.
 
Easy to make money when you spend none on maintaining the fish.......



Easy way to spot a jank lfs, no one doing any sort of maintainence when you walk in. A store with hundreds of tanks and thousands of fish, fw and sw, needs around the clock tlc imo. Id rather spend 30$ for a healthy/fed fish with nice fins then 20$ for something that the employees can't even pronounce and resembles a reptile atm.......

Front for a drug runner? i swear some of those places have to be... or somebody has deep pockets and no brains...
 
Anythings possible I guess - that place doesnt have the traffic that some of the better places have, and I don't get the sense at he's doing outside stuff either, like maintaining other peoples tank. Hell - at first I thought your "front" comment was absurd, but I guess it makes better sense than anything else.

And no, you don't see them maintaining the tanks, ever. Mostly hanging out by the cashier. Annoyed if you ask a question. Come to think about it, it is close to to Yonkers raceway...
