An aunt of mine has a 30 year old 120 gallon aquarium with a 30 gallon sump that has been housing fish since it was build by my Grandfather.

She is about to move and doesn't want to take the old aquarium. She is asking $500 dollars to cover some moving expenses

She said for 500 i get the tank stand lights sand sump...basically the whole setup.

I have a few concerns.

1. 30 year old fish tank in my home a good idea?

2. It has a small crack on one of the panes of glass that has been fixed with silicon a long time ago.

3. I've never kept a salt tank bf. I've kept fresh water species for about 17 years now. I am currently looking at converting my 30 gallon into a marine aquarium very soon. Would it be a problem to convert this old salty into a monster fresh water fish house?

Thanks for the input.

i think for a tank that has the possibilty to leak due to the crack (fixed or not) and age i would say $500 (~£250) was a rip off IMHO.
i think your getting ripped with that. i wouldnt but its your aunt and money.

id say walk away from the deal!

Yeah, not such a good deal on a damaged tank that's thirty years old.

at my lfs you can get a brand new 125 with top lights stand for 500

125 Gallon Tank with Glass Top and Light and Stand $499.98 thats from their website.. www.forestlakepets.com

IDK what it is in your area but over here that is a knockoff.

Its still sit in my backyard :irked:

This is an old tank, 48 x 24 x 24 = 120G and its missing a 48 x 24 glass. Want to come over to Toronto and pick it up and fix it?
