Steel stands...how to make them look good?

So, steel stands are great and all, but lets face it. They dont look all that great in a living room! Has anybody dressed up a steel stand with wood or other materials to make it look better?

Care to share some details or pics??

GOOD QUESTION. My tank looks great my stand looks like crap, lol

My buddy got some cloth and velcrow from the craft department @ walmart and wraped the cloth around the stand. Wasnt the best looking stand ive seen but looked better than the normal metal stand.

i was thinking of painting it black and putting some bamboo sheets inbetween the metal bars, but i dont know how tacky that would look. id like something that would have doors as well

thought of that, like build a box and just slide it over the stand, but then it would look like a big wooden box lol. im not that good with wood, so i know it would look fugly. anybody have pics of this?

just get some molding... and add doors to the front.... super simple and will look nice when painted and or stained

so would you attach the wood to the steel, or leave it so you could slide it out?

i did my steel stand, with some 2x4's on the inside corners of the stand then 1/4" plywood that evened in with the steel. I'll get a few pics up in a few minutes
