Has anyone used the steel shelving rack units for standard 180 gallon tanks? I'm looking to get a new taller stand so I can put in a bigger sump since my current stand is too low and the doors are in the way. I posted a link to an example below but I haven't found one yet that has dimensions for a 180 so if anyone knows of any please post a link here. Thank you.

The thing to watch for with a large unsupported span like that is flex. The shelves might be rated for X ton but pallets of bolts or whatever don't care if the shelves are sagging slightly under the weight. As I understand, with a glass aquarium 0.1mm flex in the stand starts to put the load on the glass rather than the stand, and at 0.25mm flex nearly 100% of the force is on the glass and silicone. (that is from the author of this article on glass thickness)

I have an acrylic tank but i'm not sure if that matters? I'm worried about the flexing as you mentioned which is why i'm looking for some people with experience using this type of rack before?

If the bottom of an acrylic tank is unsupported more than a 24" square span there can be issues with bowing or a complete blow out. You can use a steel rack, they sell center support beams to go on them (you need more than one) and also metal grate inserts but there not cheap. I would also use some better ply underneath the tank also in 3/4"-1" . May be cheaper to go wood, weld one urself, or find a local fab shop.

Thanks, looks like it won't work.
