Bought one 2.5" Steindachneri male about 1.5 months ago into a community of five 3.5" Red Head Tapajos (3M, 2F). The Stein has recently been chasing the male Tapajos relentlessly, causing some damage. But, it leaves my Blue Dolphin Hap, Datnoid NTT, Fei Fengs, 24 Clown loaches alone. -

-170G with sand, driftwood, and substantial current.

What can I do about this aggression? Does the Stein need to go?

Thx!

IMO if he has not settled in,and is now causing damage to the red heads after 6 weeks gone by,then i would remove him.you could try to re-arrange the tank decor, adding more hides and sight breaks....

I have tried three times to add red heads with other geos and been unsuccessful every time. For some reason they either chase others relentlessly or get chased relentlessly. I have give up for now but will try again one day.

why would you want to mix different biotopes....geos are americans and dolphins are africans....they both require different water parameters...??

I'm guilty of mixing tropical fish of different water parameter needs intentionally. Plan and simple. My water ph is around 7, and the blue dolphin is growing well, fat, and colors vibrant, though the ideal ph is 7.5-8.8 for this species. Basically, I will only maintain one tank, and mix species based on my personal taste. If any fish appear to suffer in any way, I find them a new home.
