hello everyone.. today i saw a stergeon for 24.99 at my lfs and i was really interested in getting one but i never had one before so im gonna do a lil research about them and i was hoping if you guys can give me a lil info about stergeons thanks !

The LFS probubly had a Sterlett rather than a true strg... in any case keeping one alive and healthy is problimatic at best in an aquarium and little better in a large pond. They really do look intresting and thats probubly why they sell but when was the last time you saw one of them returned to the store...ANY store for that matter...because they got too big?
The reason you don't see them is because they tend not to live long enough to be a problem...

I have kept them to about the 3' mark twice but have lost two aswell at under 12" the two that made it to 3' were sold at that size healthy and are still doing well. I kept them in a rubbermaid 300gallon stock tank and had a pond filter on it size to push the water across the pond rather than up like a fountain it kept the pond cooler and the water more turbulant and they loved it. the pump was also a 1350 gph the hardest part about raising the stearlets were when they were really small and that was because I had a difficult time getting them to eat. I managed to get them to take frozen blood worms and brine shrimp and once they hit about 10" they were really easy to keep happy and full. with all that said I wont own another one because they are just not suitible for an aquarium unless you have one the size of a room.
