How do you guys sterilize extra large pieces of driftwood that you found by the river/lake? Smaller pieces you can boil, but what about like a large stump, or a long branch?

I've heard of people baking large pieces in the oven to help sterilize wood... but not sure at what temps and how long though...

I've heard of that as well... I don't know if I want to stick a big dirty piece of wood into the oven where I cook my dinner though, lol.

Anyone else?

If you have access to a power washer you could use that. You could wire brush it to get the loose stuff off. I've often thought I could take the long stuff and put it in a steel 55g drum filled w/ water and start a fire under it to get it boiling.

That sounds like a good idea. Manageable as well. Just have to find a 50g drum.

soak it in a bathtub full of very salty water. use the cheap water softener salt that you can get at the supermarket or home depot.

44 gal drum put ya log in then fill her with water and salt if you like then build a fire under it and boil that water my friend

thats how i did a 5 ft peice for a mate was worth the thought and effort he gave me 80 dollers for doing it even thou i said i would do it for free

but for something a bit smaller deffinatly the bath tub and just keep boiling a big pot on the stove top and pooring it in
