My son was working in a machine shop that specializes in custom pipes. One order was for plastic pipes with threads. He brought me a big bag of thin plastic shavings that look just like the bio-bale stuff you see. I do have some concerns since the threads were cut on the same machine that metal pipes are that are used for industrial applications. What would be the best way to make sure this stuff is safe for my filtration system? It would be awesome bio media if I can lay my fears to rest. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Soak in bleach/water solution for a day or so. Then rinse thoroughly and soak in water with dechlorinator (such as Seachem Prime) to neutralize any remaining trace of bleach

That's my current plan, I was just wondering if there was any other ideas since there is a possibility that there is toxins on it.
