i am building a big new enclosure for my savannah monitor, and plan on attaching some big rocks together to make a good sized cave for him. rather than spending money on rocks from a store somewhere, i'd like to collect them from the outdoors, as i know several good spots to grab some...is there anything i need to do to sterilize them and make them safe for my lizard? hope it's not a dumb question, i would just hate to screw up and have something bad happen.. any help would be appreciated

ALL I HAVE EVER DONE IS WET THEM AND SCRUB WITH A SCRUBBY THEM AFTER THAT JUST BOIL THEM IN SALT WATER TO KILL ANYTHING LIVING IN THEM .

well, i'd just scrub thoroughly with bleach and hot water. make sure you test to make sure the rock won't screw up your PH if that is important to you.

thanks guys, i guess when it comes to taking care of my pets i'm a little on the paranoid side. thanks for the advice. i'll post pics once the enclosure is finished

Just bleach them. Atleast with a reptile enclosure you don't need to worry about them leaching into the water and poisoning your animals.
