hey guys, first of all, please consider my english.. anyways, i sterilized my tank using the bleach with a ratio of 1 is to 10 (1 bleach, 10 water) after wiping everything inside, i let it sit for 4 hours.. and rinse it.. my question is.. is 1/10 good enough to kill all the bad stuff in my aquarium? and also, when i tried to rinse it with just tap water, i didn't have a hard time taking off the smell inside the aquarium.. does it mean, i didn't sterilize it well? sorry for this noob question.. any input will very much be appreciated..

that's a fine ratio of bleach to water. just be sure to rinse it and amquel it. repeat the process at least three times, and make sure the water in it is sparkling clear. then rinse it. and rinse it some more. rinse it until you are absolutely positive that there are no remains of harmful cleaning products in it.

thanks for the response.. i only rinse it once, and the water is sparkling clear, no smell at all.. and i feel like it's soo easy to remove the residue.. not like a previous sterilize i did, i have a hard time taking out the bleach smell.. should i rinse it more, even though there's no smell and the water is clear?

5x dose dechlor water in the tank. then empty then refil

Can you elighten me on the purpose of using dechlor when sterilizing a tank? Not trying to come across rude I just don't see the point. Any chlorine in the tap will only help kill any bacteria in the tank. I wouldn't waste my time with dechlor I would use straight tap and empty/fill at least 3 times. Just my opinion.

People use dechlor to counter the bleach to make sure its safe. Two thing that neutralize bleach the sun and dechlor.

Most bleach is a form of a chlorine. for example around here liquid bleach is sodium hypochlorite.

The CL2 will evaporate given time, couple hours. If you cant smell it, there isnt enough in there to kill fish and a de-chlor wouldn't be needed unless there are fish you are adding right away.
Better safe than sorry, but no need to be paranoid. Now, soap, thats a different story.
Don't use a cleaner with bleach. EVER. If fact, if you need to remove scale and lime deposits, use white vineger.
Jus my 2¢

That makes total sense thank you. :) I misread the intent of the dechlor as I thought it was being suggested as part of the sterilization process not to neutralize the bleach.

OP, what was the reasoning behind sterilizing the tank? Disease, used tank etc..? I ask because if it were due to disease there are parasites that can encapsulate (spelling) and survive bleach.
