I recently just bought a new tank. its a 180g that was a salt water tank. i was curious as of what i could do to sterilize the tank and make it safe for fresh water fish. of course ill be removing the sand and cleaning the tank thoroughly but what else can i do to make sure it'll be safe?

Just rinse it out. Saltwater pathogens can't survive fresh water or being dried out.

If there is salt build up I've heard CLR works well for removing it. Something I had a problem with in one of my tanks.

If you are afraid of it not being clean enough then you could just use bleach in small concentrations, because it will just brake down into chorine and that is easily taken care of.

aquarium_salt.jpgjust rinse well using a algae pad and some aqurium salt0305_products_pw.gif

Vinegar is great for hard water and salt crust, to disifect it let everything dry well for a week, a fan will help. If ya use vinegar rinse everything well untill the smell is gone.

CLR is a harsh chemical, avoid it. If it's acrylic don't scrub salt creep or hard water stains, it will scratch it, soak it in hot water with a little vinegar then whipe it off carefully.
