Hello i would like to add a sterlet to my outdoor pond, it is stocked with koi goldfish, a few minnows and mosquito fish and one pleco. Can the sterlet surive i there and will he harm any of the other fish?

Yes it will survive, but try to get a small sterlet becouse they eat small fishes at night otherwise.

yes we will survive, they eat similar food to the khoi as well

bad advice. Sterlets can't process koi pellets. Kois can eat anything but sterlets need a high protein diet (shrimp, catfish, salmon etc.). I have a sterlet in my pond and the one big problem I have is that THEY don't eat the same food. I have to hand feed the sterlet because kois will outcompete the sterlet for food.

I live in socal and in the winter time I don't feed the koi as much but the sterlet needs to eat consistently all year round. You wouldn't want to feed your koi in the winter because they can't burn it off but you do have to feed your sterlet and have you ever tried to keep food away from koi? I have to separate the sterlet in another system in the winter to keep the kois from eating in the winter then back together in the spring.

Kind of a chore but It's a cool fish.

Do they really eat small fish? My fish keep breeding and I don't want all the lil' fish. Been looking for something that will eat them all up.

oh ok ....well that does sound like a chore to keep a sterlet I would really like to add one to the pond but I am still not sure. I think they are really fascinating and look absolutely beautiful. Well there is no rush to get one so i will think about it some more, by the way how about blue gill and were can i purchase some?

there is a place in Azusa California called Azusa Pet World and they carry the black ones. They sale a lot every now and then and price ranges from $50 to $15 dollars depending on how big they are.
