Has anyone on here ever tried keeping Sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus). Have been doing a bit of reading on them recently, interesting that there is actually a type of sturgeon people can keep as a pet(i was always unaware that there were any kinds of sturgeons in the pet trade, given most types massive size). Can you buy them in North America or are they only present in the pet trade in Europe?

It's definitely more manageable than the "California" or white sturgeon (transmontanus) that I see a lot more commonly in the trade. I've heard of people keeping them in koi ponds.

I have what appears to be a sterlet (there are sturgeon hybrids on the market, and it's really hard to tell sometimes), and I'm in North America. The LFSs get them from time to time.

I'm not sure if what NativePredator said is true or not. From what I've read, sterlets reach 3' max, and can tolerate warmer temperatures (75F max).
