I had a bacterial infection in my 90 a month or so ago. Fish are better now, but I feel my nets are contaminated. Since they'll probably melt if I boil them...could I freeze them to kill the bacteria?

That would work too right?

Let me know your thoughts...Thanks everybody!:headbang2

not sure on frezzing but that should work they do have "net soak" stuff to clean it

just a little bleach and rinse it really well. 402 is a good disinfectant as well as sparquot (used in hospitals). we use all 3 to disinfect for zebra mussels, kitrid, etc. (not at the same time, though)

my lfs always has there nets sitting in some type of water, i asked them about it one day and they told me it killed all the germs so the nets wouldnt transfer stuff from tank to tank. if your lfs does the same thing try asking them what they use.

they usally use "netshoak"

thanks for the help.

Buy new ones...Duh I honestly didn't even think of that...long day They are pretty cheap

would still like to know how to kill bacteria and parasites on them though. Guess I'll ask at the LFS

I think I'll buy one for each tank and keep them with the tank to help prevent spreading things

Thanks again

i think i already told you. :D

use pwins advice.

If you use bleach, use 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. This concentration is used by hospitals, vet clinics etc. and is scientifically proven to kill bacteria! Just rinse out and air the nets until you can't smell bleach anymore. Now you know how to do it!

Buying new nets is an option, but nets are a great way to transfer parasites and bacteria and should be disinfected occasionally no matter what. I transfer my fish by hand whenever possible.

windsurfer.
