I have gotten stickle backs before in my purchase of fat head minnows from the bait shop that I get feeders from. But this time I got 3 of them, so i am going to put them in a spare tank i have. Due to a recent power outage i lost all the fish that were in the tank so as any fish keeper would do i found a new fish to keep. lol-------Anyway i have been looking on the net for info and did not find very much. What i did find was that they are a member of the same family as sea horses, which i thought was neat. And they inhabit weeded area's in lakes and streams. And they eat small crustaceans and larvae. But what i need to know is what temp to keep them at and what foods do i try to feed them? I have on hand many different flake foods and shrimp pellets as well as frozen mysis shrimp and blood worms. And also red worms from the bait shop. So basically any info you all have would be great appreciated. -----thanks alot

Most stickleback species seems like frozen blood worms and brine shirmp, thats what I fed to the brook sticklebacks. Most stickleback species are pretty aggressive and are fin nippers, so they are better off in species tank only or with the gambusia.

Seems we have four North American stickleback species that was kept in the hobby.

Brook stickleback
Three spined stickleback
Four spined stickleback
Nine spined stickleback

I cant wait to get hands on three spined and four spined sticklebacks.

I have kept 3 spine sticklebacks, that I caught in saltwater in southeast Alaska. I fed them a variety of frozen foods -- mysis shrimp, blood worms, krill, and spot prawns cut up small. After some time I was able to get them to eat flakes as well.

VERY cool fish, every time I would aproach the tank they would flare up their spikes in defense. Eventually my Copper Rockfish ate them all......................................... I am hoping to capture some more this summer........................
