I've had these two clown knives for about 9 months now. When I first got them I didn't know any better and fed them strictly live. I've been trying to get them to frozen foods since sometime in June. The best I've been able to do is get them so they eat live nightcrawlers as well as feeders.
I've actually totally stopped feeding them feeders and use strictly nightcrawlers. One is about 11" and the other is 6-7". I've tried starving them for a couple days and have cut down the amount of food I give them in order to have them at least try the frozen so that they will recognize it as food.
All they do is "sniff" at it and let it fall to the bottom of the tank. They won't touch it. I leave it in the tank over night and take it out in the morning.

Any suggestions to get them completely off of live foods?

Try cut pieces of fish. THey may ignore it for awhile, but the starving method is the only way for them to start eating non-living food.

Get a feeding stick like many marine aquarists have, i made mine myself using a metal pole a lil tape and a smal nail or staple, w/e it is it works great. Get some silversides (frozen) and then just put the nail thru the silversides head and wiggle it round in the tank as if it were living or just starting to die. My clown knife wouldnt eat silversides until i did this, then he ate them like a champ. too bad i justgave him away. hope it helps!

I would but I can't get silversides where i'm at. Closest thing to a fish pet store is Walmart. And they've never heard of silversides. How long can I starve the 10" clown before I should feed it again (in other words, if he doesn't start eating the cut up fish, how long should I go without feeding him what I know he'll eat?)

it most certainly is NOT the ONLY method to get them off live food.

well DeLgAdO, what are some others? I'm desperate at this point. I really want to expand the number of things I can feed them. What do you suggest?

U can order other fish foods not available to u at walmart offline!!

You can also use some forceps and hang a piece of fish in front of it's face...that might also work.

Mine eat raw shrimp ad well, you can feed them that. Try the feeding stick, they learn from other fish too. Do you have any other carnivores in the tank?
