I had to pull all my tanks down in april. Due to getting a new basement. They moved the house, and I am getting close to being able to set some tanks back up.
Took the gf to minneapolis last sat to look at fish, found a motoro pup. She thinks their cute so that is my final OK to move onto setting up for rays.Right now I have a standard 300 gal. I have priced acrylic $1103 to order off the internet, $830 to order from the same co. , only running it through my place of work. .473 thick 8'x4'x2' tall. I was told cell cast is a brand, so my quote is for cast acrylic.
IM still really interested in motoros mostly due to their price and hardiness. Im planning on 2 f 1m. For me I seem to never be satified with just keeping something. I always feel the need to try breed. I still plan on feeding fish i can catch northers mostly but I would also like to feed whole fish like perch and panfish, massivor, shrimp. Im thinking of raising crays and snails for treats. Is this something that would even be worth while or should I just skip it? So mostly Im just running through my thoughts And to see IF you guys think im on the right path and to point out stuff im still missing

Sounds like a great plan mate. Lovely size tank too.
I like to offer a varied diet but some rays are picky about what they eat (mine don’t eat snails) and be a little weary about adding parasites from the fish you’re catching. Sea food in generally safer. earthworms though are a really good treat and all rays seem to go mad for them.

What’s your plans for filtration?

Thank you,
All caught fish will be frozen and thawed to avoid any bad guys. I have been running sumps for about 10 yrs. So right now the plan is a 100 gal sump with pot scrubbies and bio balls . I am thinking of trying to build a sand filter also. For that i would use some acrylic tube, but I will also be looking at a pool filter. I have a reefflow return pump 2,600 gph on the low end. I have another pump that pumps 2,800 gph with a 28' head, but that uses almost 4 x the energy.

Cell cast is a type of acrylic. Made by many manufacturers. Many better than others for solvent welding and holding 100's of gallons.

Strongly recommend using Arkema (brand) Plexiglas-g, Arkema (brand) PMACS, or Polyone Polycast formerly spartech. Second tier would be Acrylite by Evonik, Chemcast.
I would not use anything else, I have heard bad stories about new cell cast called acrycast.

Use the Pin method. It will take longer but the tank will be irrefutably stronger in the seams. Avoid the capillary method on a tank this size, it's ease and speed is tempting, but you could end up regretting it in a major way.
