My new silver aro still hasnt eaten anythin with the exception of a single black worm... He is not being bullied by any of his tank mates... ive attempted feeding him hikari brand food sticks, wild caught bonito, cicild gold (also hikari brand), freeze dried krill, frozen red worms, frozen brine shrimp, and live fat head minnows... anyone have any tips to get her to eat or any other types of food to try any info would be greatly appreciated...

How long have you had it, what size tank is it in, and how big is it? Need details
Why exactly would you need such details to conclude what he should try feeding his aro?

It's a new aro not eating. Try out some crickets and mealworms, these are usually foods that aros can't ignore.

Freakin thing lol literally right after i posted this she went to the top of the tank and took a few sticks lol but i will defineetly try the mealworms btw guys are there any fish that can't have mealworms?

Charles to answer your questions- had her for six days now, the tank is a 225g, she is approx. 6 in. you have any ideas or other tips??

Yep try mealworms and crickets and fresh cooked prawn, for some reason all my fish prefer the cooked stuff, also i think the question was asked about tank size etc because if it was in a tiny cramped tank etc it may well be off its food but thats all sorted now so no probs.

I was asking because the smaller they are the shyer and more hesitant they are. It also depends on the fish, for mine it took about 4 days to eat and I had to start it out on live feeders. Slowly it began to eat pellets and other foods. It can take up to 2-3 weeks for some aros though. Tankmates can also cause issues but he said they didn't. And tanksize, I just wanted to know lol I'm nosey about some things.

But it all sounds good, do you have plans for when it outgrows your current tank? (nosey)

And try also feeding it mealworms, earthworms, and grubs. High in protien and are pretty fattening. Good for young and mid-aged aros

Mealworms are like crack to arows, when I purchased mine it was strictly on worms and still has not taken sticks.

If its taking sticks then best to feed them as a staple, only feed worms/crickets on a monthly basis if at all.

Also good to try an incorperate shrimp and white fish in their diet, my jar was on sticks, shrimp and tilapia only and I was getting some rediculous growth

Once she out grows her tank unfortunately im gonna have to send her off to a happier home cause unfortunately i have not the space or funds to get a tank any bigger than the on i have as of right now :/

I tried mealworms and nightcrwlers aka earth worms and nothin at all :/ still only 1 black worm and 1 stick and 1 freeze dried krill slow progress is better than none i guess ill stay persistent with whats workin as of right now. Thanks all

Best bet is to only feed pellets or foodsticks. Once it readily eats pellets you can the expand it's diet. If you don't you may never be able to get it onto pellets without starving it for long periods.
