Still having a lot of issues. My FH had ick I believe so I've used the clout I had purchased for the other now deceased FH. I've been treating him for about 4 to 5 days now. I was surprised to see him out when I got up as he hides a lot. He doesn't eat. In the month that I've had him I've gotten him to eat twice. I do have a nitrate issue. No matter what I've done nothings lowering it. Water changes, prime, gravel cleaning or plants have judged the readings I'm getting (this is a 7 year old established tank). So yesterday I purchased nitra zorb out of desperation. I just put it in as I've been meditating the tank and couldn't..but I'm at a loss on what to treat cause I can't do all of it and I don't know what his issue is. I don't know how to get him to eat and its worrying me as his stomach goes in. Ill try to attach pics but they're not the greatest..plus the clout made a mess in my tank and in photos the water looks green. He's also pale

Prime can give false positive readings on nitrate tests up to 48 hrs. So check in 2 days after a water change. May need to check ur water from ur home as well. Just to be safe.

What’s the fish doing besides not eating? What are u treating it for now? Have you been using the clout? Are ur temps high? What’s ur filtration?

Are u sure the initial spots weren’t just lymphocytosis and it’s now affecting ur other fish?

Sorry to ask questions but not sure myself. These are a few things that came to mind.

Prime doesnt change the readings not even days afterwards. I've checked my water so its not from that. I have a fluval clear for 70g in my 55g. He does nothing but sit at the bottom of the tank..that's all he's ever done since I bought him. The other fish didn't have that white spot just this one. Which multiplied after a day or two on the one fin. Yes I've been ive using clout the last 4 or 5 days. My temp is about 83 but thinking of raising it. I've been treating him with clout but when he was out today I put in that nitra zorb in my filter just in case its a nitrate issue (can't have carbon while meditating so its one or the other). Not sure how clout is for a fish the white crap from clout seems a but much for a fish thats stressed.

Something is off for sure. Wouldnt raise the temp unless it’s clearly ich. Sounds a little odd to be honest.

Would for sure get the nitrates under control. Seems like it maybe the cause for distress and potential infections. Have any plants die off or BB die? How are u cleaning ur filters? What coming out of ur tap?

Well when nothing else has worked ..lol I've had the plants roughly two weeks but no they haven't..yet..I never had much luck with aquarium plants and with a cichlid tank I never had to worry about plants..until now. BB? The filters only about two months old ..maybe 3 ..it looks pretty clean still..I did rinse off the sponge in case that was affecting the nitrates...which didn't make any difference . hmm good thing I retested our water..and did less then a week ago. Ph is 6 ammonia and nitrites 0 but nitrates 160..a week ago it was maybe a trace amount..but I have well water and we just had snow that's melted so it could be that..but ack. I've not seen our water with that high of a reading

That’s some crazy readings. Possibly an R/o system may help. Maybe duanes duanes can help as I’m not too sure with wells. He’s good with water.

Clout should be good enough for ich and other parasites. Would keep the temp around 78 degrees and finish the clout.

Wells need to be treated. Shallow wells will have lots of chemical runoff on occasion. Hope you can get an answer.

I don't have that kind of money..or any as I've blown it all on all of these fish issues. Im about to just give up. I've had fish all my life..in the same home same well with no issues

my buddy had nitrate issues for a while turned out he had some old filter floss stacked low in his canister that had been there way too long ..once he got that out of there it cleared up ..don't know if that helps but figured Id share
