Hi,

I have 3 P14. The females are both around 35 cm disksize and the male around 30 cm disksize. All the animals are around 2 years old; so I assume they are sexually matured by now (or not?). The male comes from a different breeder than the male. Alle 3 are F1 and are housed in a 2.50m x 1.00m x 0.65m tank with a Red Arowana and a L330. The waterquality is perfect.

To calculate:
1 inch = 2.54 cm
1 meter = 39.4 inches

I noticed that my male is not making any serious attempts to mate with the females, while his claspers are already rolled out for 6 months now. Like most of us my wish is to breed them, so I am looking for a method to stimulate them to breed.

I am not focussing on hybrids but this thought crossed my mind:

I'll put an Sexually matured male from another species (mature P14 are not to get these days, so it probably would be motoro) in my tank to stimulate the sexdrive of my P14 male. Of course I hope the P14 male will be stimulated to mate with his females, but If the other male does I'll take him out before the females will give birth in the hope my P14 male will mate with them after all.

My question:
What do you guys think about this thought? Is it worth to try or am I exaggerating and should I just wait longer?
Maybe some of you have other ideas of stimulating?

Thanks for the help!

2yrs old is still a bit young mine bred at 2.5yrs old and i was told that was young to be breeding

you may want to add another male just for a short time as the existing male then this he better breed fast or the other male may get in their before him :D

once breeding has started you can remove the spare male

got any pictures

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the fast reply. I just posted some pics in this thread:
Sticky: Post your stingray pics here.

I know it is a bit young (just have a desire to be the 2nd F2 P14 breeder here in europe :).

I was wondering how long your male did serious attempts to mate with the females until he actually made one pregnant and what the discsize of your animals was when they mated. Were the claspers of your male already full grown for a while?

Thanks, Steven

here are pics from his fish...

WOW! Nice and fat. Lookin good

Hmmm.. Sounds like a difficult situation.

I think you should take this chance to sell them and ship them over here to the States!

Haha just kidding, hope it all works out for you

very very nice :D

i was very luck my male was gentle and didnt do any real damage to the female

my male had mature claspers at 10inch disk

he was trying to breed at 12inch disk but couldnt flip her over

what happened for me was he was trying with no luck then i added a mature male i got the new male didnt do that well as the male i already had was bullying him

they bred within 3 months of adding the 2nd male then i sold the newer male

i also had 2 females but the male showed no intrest in the 2nd female

the 2nd female started bullying the preg female its like she was missing out on some loving :D

good luck with the breeding :D

very nice P14s.... one day ill get my hands on a pair of them...
