stimulating appetite in oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
on the aggression, how long have they been together? i went through the same thing when i introduced my albino to my tiger on my old 55 (tiger @6" and albino @5") (now both reaching 9)". i kept an eye on 'em for the first couple of days, and oscars can be conditioned. when my tiger would charge the albino i gently tap on the glass, just to discourage the behavior. im not saying it'll work all the time but it worked for me. i stayed away from feeders, for some reason when the tiger got hungry, it was looking for live fish, and big target was my albino :D i have to echo on what everyone is saying though, more room for the O's, more room to swim away. both my oscars are now in a 125.

they still square off here and there :grinyes:

oscars (quickly) grow too large for 55g tanks. A 75g can hold 1 grown oscar, though I would recommend at least a 125g.

your only solution is to remove the bully, take him back to the LFS or euthanize him. There is a high chance that a new bully will arise from the remaining oscars, though. So you may end up removing a lot of fish. Oscars are big fish that need their space.

actually an oscar in a 55 will do good if you keep it buy itself, but bigger is always better.

Ive never seen an oscar stop eating, except if he had so much in his mouth he coulnt fit anymore. If a partial water change doesnt perk up his appetite its got to be a tankmate stress issue.Oscars do "pout" when theyre stressed or upset.
