Alright, I am considering purchasing this setup from a dude on craigslist, problem is it comes with a baby sting ray. What kind is it and how would you take care of it? I know, the tank it's in is waaaaayyy too small for it. (Would be awesome if one of you were in the Bay Area and wanted a baby sting ray). I have never kept salt water fish before so yeah, that is the extent of my experience.

I've heard those kind of self contained tanks are good for first timers, its hard to tell what kind of Ray it is with that pic but my guess is a California Round and yes it needs to go to a bigger tank or the ocean.

So if it's a California round, it maxes out at 9" correct? Would you just feed it a diet of market shrimp and fish fillet?
they say 9" but my female is 10" and growing, they say a max of 22.8" long too. I feed mine all of the above plus scallops, clams, krill, sqiud and the fish filet needs to be ocean fish not fresh water, like salmon, tuna, mahi and so on. You are'nt planning on keeping that rays in there are you?

Hell no, lol. I would actually give it away to anyone who was willing to come pick it up. That is if I do end up buying the setup. Just wanted to know in case I end up having to keep the little guy for a month or so. I'm in college right now and live in a Frat House so there is no way that I'm going to be upgrading for the ray as much as I would want to.

I'm in the Bay Area. I don't really want any more rays, but if you find out what kind it is I may be able to keep it temporarily until a new home can be found.

Hmmm ... No Shark or Ray should ever be kept in a nano tank. Even baby stingrays or newly born bamboo sharks should be in a tank that at least 50 gallons for the 1st few months.

And California Round rays would be best off in a small pond as they mature.

I'm in Castro Valley - have tanks that can take that little guy, no prob. Like they said, that nano is SCARY small for that ray. I'm willing to bet that both the tank and the ray came from Aquarium Concepts in Dublin - they routinely get those little rays in stock, and are pretty dumb about what goes it what there.

I was hoping you'd chime in. I can't believe the filtration in that tank is keeping up with the ray, and I'd rather not take it. But if it comes down to it, I know you'd give it a good home.
