Hey Everybody,

Just wanted to give an update and of coarse would like ideas to begin more research. Looks like my tank in the new house will most likely be a 6 foot by 3 foot by 27 inch 300 gallon marineland tank. I have found one for a good price however just checking to make sure I would be able to keep the warranty. I really like how this tank looks however I'm pretty sure most rays still can't live in this tank for long :(
I'm still interested in marbles or motoros however maybe the marble could thrive in this size tank..but pretty sure the motoros woudn't. I inda already have tankmates plans, I will be growing out a school of geophagus think a ray and geo combo would look great!

Well basically my questions is: What kinds of hardy rays would thrive in this tank for life? I have basically swamped my head with tons of research on marbles and reg motoros...I have a feeling marbles wold be ok in this tank however I have heard of some getting larger then expected. Thanks for any info on hardy rays for this tank, also any stocking suggestions?

Will update when I receive further news about the 300 gallon... Thanks A Million

6x3 is a nice sized footprint. I would prefer a longer length, but that size is not bad at all. If I were you and dead set on those dims I would seek out a few "mini" marbles or possibly some hystrix. You could keep either of those species in a 6x3 footprint for life IMO. Of course others will likely disagree and I can see why (a bit cramped), but I feel like that footprint would suffice for a trio or quad of either. Have you thought about using it as a growout for some leos or henlei? They would be okay fr 2 years or so, but you would want a plan to upgrade to a larger tank or maybe build a pond. Just some thoughts for you. Good luck and hope that warranty will transfer to you!

Personally, it depends on how many rays you are interested in and what type of filteration you will be running. The smaller species would do fine. Mini MM, Hysterix, Retic, Apricario. Males of the other species would do fine. If you are looking into keeping males and females of the "medium" size rays (Motoro, Reg. MM, Leo, Pearl) I would say 1 male and 2 female would be pushing it with good filteration and auto drip (At the adult size of course as the adult females get 24"+). Others will disagree I'm sure.
Far as the 300g tank goes, long as the price is right and the tank holds water, I would not get worried about the warranty...just my opinion.

My 200 has a foot print of 6 foot by 27" and I have 4 rays in it. I have 3 marbles 10-11" which appear to be the so called mini type and a aparicio that is close to 12". They have plenty of room and can go all day without even touching each other if they wanted. I would not add anymore than these 4.

I'd go Hystrix over Marbles. Seem to be more hardy, cheaper, and you know there's no mistaken whether it's a "mini" or not IF they even exist. ;)

Depending on filtration, I honestly don't see why you couldn't do a half dozen. Will likely need bigger down the road, but should be ok for years. I have a 6x3 and it's some room if the rays are small. If you're talking that tank for life I'd call it a day at 4 rays.

I'd definetly start with a small species and get familiar with the food/water bills, and maintainance before comitting to housing a monster. People always stress tanksize but I feel food is a pretty big deal too. A good size ray could cost you $5 a DAY in food.

Thanks everyone for your input and replies I never thought about those rays listed as I've only looking into motoros and such, however I will defintly look into them. For filteration it will basically be the biggest sump I can possibly fit under the stand with large filter socks and tons of gallons of pond matrix. Water changes would of coarse be ritural, I like the auto drip idea however I will have to see if it would be possible in the new house.
Curruntly I'm actually trying to look into more tanks after a fellow mfker have mentioned to me sites that could help me find a tank this size or even bigger for the cheaper.

Lol what are you feeding a single ray for 5 dollars a day?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using MonsterAquariaNetwork App

LOL you act as if rays don't get big.....

IF a Marble can even get close to this I'd hate to see what a big pregnant blackie could consume..... I thought there was even a guy on this board from down under that had a monster female Motoro able to take down 2lbs of shrimp a day...... LOL.

What's a pound of shrimp cost where you live?

Ever had big stubborn wild caught/freshly imported rays? Stuck on blackworms or crawlers??? Sometimes it takes a while to break them, sometimes they stay stuck.

I've got two beasts that can easily eat 1lbs each per day if I feed them it. I don't think it's healthy feeding them like that. Plus it's hard on the water.

Hey dbjunkie how's the falkneri doing?
Mines growing like a weed. You got some of the bigger ones.
If they grow and eat like zippy (my falks name) they are probably quite the beasts by now :)
