Hello All,

Am in the final stages of getting a ray.

Call me uneducated but please educate me with your experiences

about sting removal in juvenile rays ??

All inputs appreciated.

Thanks a ton

Do not remove the stingers, it will only cause infection if removed improperly - not to mention unneeded stress to the ray. The stingers will grow back as well - rather pointless unless you plan on opening a ray petting zoo and want to limit liability.

Just leave the stingers alone.. agree with above response

These posts crop up every few months, can we have a sticky to say DO NOT MESS WITH THE STING, if you need to ask the question then you do not know enough to keep sting rays...end of!

Not to hijack, but..
Is there a nice guide on the best conditions (tank size, etc) to keep rays, and moreso how to avoid getting stung in an aquarium setting. I know about the stingray shuffle when you are in the ocean (not to physically step on them) and I know that they will sting under extreme stress and as defense, but that's it.

I was surprised when I saw the topic title, and it's good to know that they shouldn't be manipulated like that.

NM - Stickies are nice huh :)

Leave the stinger alone. All points have been brought forth.

If you're careful, you shouldn't ever get stung. If you're that scared of being stung, don't get stingrays. And if you're terrified of being stung, and still want to get stingrays, then the best idea would be to get one of those little rubber "gloves" they put on rays. The real kicker is, you run more risk of getting stung while trying to fit one of those gloves on the stinger than if you just left it alone.

Plenty thanks to all those helpful folks who answered.

Pardon the childish query on my part.

Just beginning.

Morepower to all of you.
