Just a quick query, I never noticed this till recently.
My female Half Marble's new stinger grows in on top of the older stinger.
On my full Marbles the new stinger grows in from under the older stinger.
Has anyone else experienced this difference and is it common?

Ah placed this question in the wrong section, mods move if you would please.

I have seen some of mine grow in on top but never paid attention to see if any came in under neath. I actually have a female marble with now stinger. She shed her only one a couple of weeks ago and is now stinger less.

Just a curiosity question as I never really paid full attention as to where the regrowth came in on
my other rays.

Yep, in all the books I've read about rays they've mentioned this. They also mention that a ray could have a third stinger grow in before the oldest one is shed.

I have observed, that the new stinger usually grows where the last stinger was shed.

What I recorded is, that the young rays are born with one stinger. The second stinger is growing above the first stinger. Then the first stinger (the lower one) is shed and the next (the third) is growing under the second stinger. Then the second stinger (the above one) is shed and the fourth is growing above the third, and so on.

The first stinger was shed around 6 months after birth, and the time between shed one stinger to shed the next varied between 6 and 10 months.
This is the normal way for my rays.

One time I observed that the stinger was shed before the next stinger grow, and one time the stinger grow in the wrong direction (tip of the stinger towards tail base).

Thanks for the input. I now have a starting point and will see if this holds true with
my rays. The half marble is 15 months and has just had her third shed so it
is running about 5 months between sheds.
