How aggressive can stingrays get? With other fish, and their own kind?

I have an 8" female motoro I bought several months ago...I bought her a 4-5" male retic, which was eating healthily but died after a month or so. A few months later, I got her a 4-5" male motoro this time...which then also mysteriously died after 2 months (yesterday)...confused as to why, they were housed alone together, sharing the same water with several other fish, eating healthily and swimming around and whatnot...wondering if there's a chance that the larger female stressed out the smaller males to death? I noticed the males didn't eat much for a few days prior to its death....starting to lose faith in my ability to keep stingrays...especially when motoros are supposed to be the most hardy. thinking of giving up rays for now.

they can be very aggressive. it can happen that one ray stresses another so much that it eats less and/or falls victim to disease. I recommend that next time you keep the new ray in a separate tank for a month or two and then introduce them. this way you can get a feel for what it likes to eat and how it normally acts.

id say its real simple... she out competed the new rays... retic is a gimme but the motoro being fresh to the tank probably never got enough food...

what size tank you got? best bet be next time add a divider let the other have one side all to itself
