Quarantine Tank
At what size you you find stingrays become aware of your presence? Begging for food, approaching you, etc.?

OR

Do you think it really boils down to its own personality?

I think a lot of captive fish behavior boils down to individual behavior.

my new retic (about 5"s diameter) cues on to me only about a week after being in the tank, whereas my NGT and gar took a few months to not hide from me...

but i think alot of it is the indviidual fish.. what i do tho, is everytome my hand is in the tank, make an attepmt at touching them with food in my hand, that way they loose the handshy ness and associate your hand with food. its worled for everyfish ive ever owned (cept my african B-fly, he still hates me almost 2 years down the road)

agreed .. some individual rays are just more active and personable than others. But some breed are more "reserved" than others too . Tiger rays in general will never be as boisterous as Leos or Motoros, for example. But individual personality plays a bigger factor than anything .

I think its all the rays personality as with all fish... I've had fish hide from me for months and fish 3 days out of the bag follow me arround and let me pet them so to say.....

My male retic was a bit shy for like 4 weeks.
But the female started with eating from my hand and almost never hides when i have to do something in the tank.

If i miss feeding hours by 30 minutes or so they let me know. They will splash water lika crazy..

all of mine eat from my hand... and the motoros are small, and do the same thing ;)

Well motoro yes i believe they arrn´t afraid of anything.
But retics are a bit shy and extreamly picky eaters.
