I have a male teacup that i acquired from a local pet shop. I am seriously considering breeding and need to know absolutely everything there is to know about it so i can make a decision for sure. I mean from tank size to subsitrate and on. Any information will be helpful.

This is a picture of the same type of ray as mine. I would take a pic of mine but i can never get a good one:

Not sure what you did to deserve the rude response but reading the stickies is good advice

That is a picture of a Retic

You will need at least a 72x24 bigger is better, Sand or bare bottom works fine I prefer sand, Males will have two claspers at the base of the tail females won't

Any other questions feel free to ask

welcome to the ray section :)

also, i do have a couple specific questions:

-what is the recommended tank temp?
-Has their been more success with sand or bare bottom/does it even matter?
-Do i need to worry about separating the young(as with most other fish)?
-recommendations for what the young prefer to eat
-are their any special tequs that have proven more successful?
-Do rays mate for life?
-Will water changes need to be more/less frequent while breeding

like i said any information is helpful, even the basics that i may already know. Always good to be reminded

Yes 24 hours after birth I would remove the pups into another tank with same temperature...And as for the rude comments there's just ***holes on here that have nothing better to do then act like jerks online...Good luck with ur ray and welcome...

Anywhere from 80-82 is pretty common for rays

Sand or bare bottom is personal preference, I find sand to be more natural and I think it stimulates the rays since they are always digging through it

I find the easiest food to get any ray to eat is Nightcrawlers that are cut up very small which is a great food for small pups

You will need to up your water changes while the female is pregnant, Mainly because she will be eating more and more which will cause more nitrates in the long run

Why are u so lazy, im tired of reading bs of this... Gees google is ur friend, theres sticky for a reason. Stop being lazy

Dizcus, not meaning to be rude, but as to your responce. If you are tired of reading stuff like this, then stop reading it.. Some people do read the stickys and still ask questions. Just because there is a sticky, doesnt make that information 100% correct. Some people like to see other ways things may work. Stickys get outdated, as some of us were discussing that just a few days ago... And well some people just rather get a responce from a ray owner than just from reading..
I agree, people should read the stickys before posting. But I would still prefer for someone (esp a newbie) to ask questions than not get the correct info at all.

Welcome to ray keeping.
You can find a lot of answers by typing key words into the search function of this forum. Retics are a relatively "rarely" bred species. Members here have done it, but it seems to be the least common. Plan for adult rays when considering tank dimensions. Yes you can start small and get bigger tanks as your ray grows but really the best choice is to go big early. Wet dry trickle filters seem to be the most common/popular method of filtration but many here have very useful and unique alternatives. Food? You can find a plethora of food threads here. (use the search function for that one). Again, welcome, and keep the questions coming.
Respectfully,
FireMedic.
