Hello all,

I am planning on building a fishtank coffee table. I am not set on what I am going to put in it yet (stock wise). I am thinking of making it a stingray tank. I have never had a stingray before, so stating that I need some epert advice. I have been researching good stingrays to have, hysterix, motoro, etc... I am not set on what I want yet.

My biggest concern is the dimensions of the tank. I want to get small stingrays so the tank does not need to be huge. Some tank dimensions I was thinking of doing is 48"long by 18"deep and 17"high. Would this be suitable for a small (5-6") ray for a couple of years?

If you have any advice on what species of ray to get, and tank dimensions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mike

i think reticulated would be cool im not too shure on inches but id say 150 to 200cm diameter and 50 cm high

unless ur coffee table is the size of a coffin! i would reconsider stingrays.

for a motoro especially you will need bare minimum 48X48X12'' but, most people will tell u more and recommend
6X4X2 feet and 8X4X2 feet, and ponds and other large containers that can hold massive amounts of water but have a lot of surface area. your idea however could house a young ray for a short period of time. im just stating permanent habitat; bigger the better is what most ray hobbiest will advise.
hope this helps!

u could keep some small breeds of Birhirs maybe. u might wanna look into those! i think their cool, they would be my second choice after a ray.

Thats gunna be one huge ass coffee table lol if you want it to fit rays for life.

A teacup pup might work...

lol.

Thanks for the quick responses. It is giving me things to think about.

I was just planning on keeping the ray in there for a couple years at the most, and then move them to another tank. It seems this may not work though. This is why I wanted to get other experienced ray enthusiasts to give me their input.

Thanks

''teacup ray'' is just a gimmick used by LFS, its just a baby ray of smaller species of rays.. and yah he could keep a baby ray in there for a bit. so u are right.;)

My point exactly. I thought that "teacup ray" was used more widely? It is still likely a P.Reticulate? No?
