Hey guys, I have a little problem in my aquarium this week. About a month ago, I decided to get my hystrix some feeder shrimp, for the first time. I put in 10. After eating 8 of them that day, he seems to have suddenly decided he doesn't like feeder shrimp anymore. The remaining 2 have grown to about 2 inches now and are going after the discus in my tank! They have torn the fins of a couple of them. I can't catch them without distressing everything else in the tank. Can anyone recommend a better way to get them out?

try this

also unless ur geting live foods from a good source an u know there good i usually steer away from live foods. give it to them on special occasions. alot of feeder fish an live baits can carry things that can make ur fish sick or introduce something u dont want, the hard part with wild fish is geting them off live food, an thats a whole nother set of step an trial an error. lol hope that link helps

Easiest way to catch large shrimp is with two nets. They swim backwards, so coax it with a net in the front, and sneak up behind it with a larger net. I had to pull some 4 inch macrobrachium out of a 220g a few months back, worked like a charm.

+1... Works great on crayfish too

The method in post one did not work; I think these guys are just too smart for that. They would go to the top of the trap, but never inside. I even skipped feeding the tank for 3 days so they would be good and hungry. I believe these are the macrobrachium also, bcarlos. I am going to try the two nets, I was just avoiding having to take all the decor out of the tank. But, I guess that will give me a chance to scrub it all and get it looking clean. I think if I take everything out so these guys can't hide the ray will catch and eat them. He acts like he knows they're in there and he wants them but they are too elusive.

I wish I never would have put them in there. Has anyone else had this problem? Bought these at an LFS. I knew what I was buying, but I figured he'd eat them before there were any problems, since there was only 10. Mistake on my part!
