Stingray health

I was recently talking to a guy that keeps salt water stingrays. He had a couple blue spots and some big monster something (not sure what they were). Huge 3 or 4 footers easy.
Anyways: he was telling me about the importance of natural sunlight to
the health of his rays.
could this be true?
How important would natural sunlight be for freshwater rays?

I've kept rays for close to 4 years and my tank rarely sees any natural sunlight. I doubt if there is anything to that.

For what vitamin d? Dosnt seem like any freshwater ray keepers are having any problems

That's what I was thinking. Vitamin D.
But that should be in most pellet foods we feed them.
Maybe it's just salt water species

Ray and shark keepers on the salty side practice using vits and supplements far more than freshwater ray keepers. Its honestly very surprising theres not more use of mazuri vit tabs for freshwater rays as they are almost mandatory for sharks. Interesting theory on vitamin d tho, looks like someone needs to use a uvb bulb and see if it makes a difference lol...im sure zoodiver has some better facts on this subject.
