I just got my adult female motoros on Sunday and they have been doing very good. But last night my home made heater gard broke and my biggest female got about 4 small heater burns between .5 cm-1.5 cm big, my smaller female got 2 burns about 1 cm big, and my male got 2 small .5 cm burns. I have already added all the salt I have, which is not too much and will be getting some more tomorow. The rays have been hiding alot sense this has happened, they are still eating though. I really hope there is no chance I can lose them (my rays have never had heater burn before so im flipping out!!!). They're also pritty stressed because my pond had a leak in it and I was afraid that the leak was going to get bigger and I would end up with and empty pond with dead rays. So today i moved them so my 125 gallon (only for a week or so) and I put some new liner in the pond. How long should I wait to put the rays back into the pond? I dont think it should be very soon because I don't want to stress them too much than I need to. So what do I need to do? :S
Also the large female is about 13 inches, the male and smaller female about 10 inches.

Breath deep, seek peace.......

#1, utilize anything on-hand to shroud the heaters. (make them untouchable by the rays) Careful not to impede water flow around the heaters. If you need a simple solution try a small plastic waste can (clean) drill a bunch of holes all around it, put this in the tank and put the heaters in it. If you have a powerhead, direct its flow upon the now "hole-e" can. Place the can so that the rays cannot get into it.

The rays should be fine. Feed them, feed them well. Make absolutely certain that you monitor the water parameters and even consider aggressive daily water changes of 50% to eliminate toxin build-ups. Keep the filters running in top form.

If you salvaged the filters from your pond and the bacteria within them is viable, set to filling the pond and getting one of the filters running on it. In my opinion if the bacteria is viable you should be okay. If you have a friend(s) with clean (disease free), viable filters have one dropped off to your house and utilize it to help further stabilize the pond water.

Some people recommend salt, others do not, I offer no opinion.

Please to not be to hasty in your efforts to get their new home ready. Focus on each step, complete it and move to the next. Rays are survivors and not as fragile as you may think. Take this advice with a grain of salt because I am not an expert. Read the advice others post here.

add some salt... as long as you have good bio filter get them right back in the pond... use all water they are in now and then top off... works like a water change.... with ponds heaters are best left inline or in the sump....

The water I used for the 125 gallon aquarium they're in right now was from the pond and I used all the old biomedia for it was well. The rays seemed alot more active this morning (swimming around, slashing, looking for food, etc.). I'll be doing a daily water change while the rays are in the 125 becasue I do not want to risk having bad water. The burns are still kind of bad, the biggest ones burn has some broken blood vessels but other than that they look the exact same.
Any help and comments would be apreciated.
thanks,
darcy

A few of my little retics got heater burns and they are fine as long as you stay on top of water quality and food..

Can't add too much to what's already been said above. Sounds like they're not too bad though, as long as they still have their appetites. When they quit eating is when you have serious problems.

Heater burns look real bad and take a long time to heal. They also tend to look worse a few days after the incident and all the dead skin falls away. Just make sure the burn does not get infected, salt was already added so should take care of this. Good water and they will be fine nothing to worry about.

I there is nothing to worry about especially because the ray is a motoro. Those are hardy rays and burns are nothing to them unless they are thin and malnourished.

Things are good, the rays are alot more active, they've already ate 10+ earth worms. Im planning on feeding them 10 more tonight and doing a 50% w/c every day and also feeding them alot so that there body has alot of energy to heal back quickly. The rays seem alot calmer seeing how the heater in now covered. The skin that the burn was in is now fallin off, which I think is common. The burns are underneath the ray, so at first it didnt look like a burn it looked like a ray was getting bitey (remember I was looking into a pond so i couldnt see the bottom of them). The rays look pritty healthy other than the burns though, they are kinda skittish though.
