Hello all can I start with saying wow I am new to the site and some of you guys have some very very nice fish / set ups. I hope the wife will let me have one one day.

However I have started small I have a 6" Hi Grade Montro Ray and a 6" Pearl Arrowana i put these in to my tank about 36 hours ago the Arrowana seems to have settled in well however the Ray has moved very little.

Is this normal??

He was very lively in the shop. There were also 2 red Parrot fish in the tank (been in there for longer) these have now been moved as they went giving the Ray or Arrow two seconds alone (these were taken out 12 hours ago)

He is alive I can see him breathing other than that no real movement

All advice welcome as have kept Cichlids for many years but know little about rays.

Thanks

I see him being feed at pet shop. Seemed happy have tried to feed him at home food gos but i think that is the Arrowana. The tank has been running 3 weeks 2 of with parrot fish was started with established water. He has come out once (that i have seen) Pic attaced looking very red??

its normal for rays to hide when their stressed, or have been moved. i would keep all the light off and give it some time.

also, if u have not already, i would highly recommend reading the stickies in this forum!

the (ray's) left pelvic fin looks a bit red to me, possibly due to abrasion or possibly even ammonia burn. what are ur water parameters?

Water is well within parameters. that may be down to pet shop he was in a tank with stones he has very fine sand in new tank. Lights now off I feel it may be just time now parrots not having ago at him.

just to be sure i would monitor the water often, since the tank has only been set up for 3 weeks. otherwise, just give the ray time and fatten it up. and again READ the stickies if u have not already!

Keep an eye (daily) on the ammonia and nitrite for a few weeks, the tank was cycled but the filters will not be used to the bio load yet. (I suspect)

I just recently bought a young ray. He was shipped to the LFS from his supplier thrown in his tank dipped out a few hours later boxed and taken home by me. He was active and I offered him food the next morning which he vigorously ate. I KNOW MY TANK WAS CYCLED and my water params were perfect. I would suspect that you need to be checking on whats going on because the only time I see mine sit still or hide in the sand is when I scare him or get my scoop in the tank to scoop out extra food/waste.

Much Much happier this evening he is out about I think it may have been just down to the Parrot Fish being bullys. Will try food in the morning thanks agin everyone
