I dont see any problems on raising small rays on pellets only. As long as it is an high quality pellet its all good. I currently have two mantillapups that refuses everything except pellets and i dont bother feeding them anything else atm. And got two pregnant females that always refused pellets but now only takes pellets.

I prefer shrimps because I have the other fish in there take shrimps. I feed them a mixture of shrimps and pellets now. Hopefully he will eat some in the future.
