I have a pair of Scobina Pups in a 90 gallon bare bottom tank with no driftwood or ornaments filtered with 2 Fluval 405's. They are 8 months old, no other tank mates and were eating shrimp / worms. The Scobinas never had the hearty appetite that Motoros and Leo's have, but always ate. They seem quite aggressive towards each other when eating; fiercely biting each other when there is lots of food in the tank. I noticed in the last week the female didn't seem to eat as much and has stopped eating altogether. Male still eats fine. Male is 1 1/2 times the size of the female. Water parameters are fine. Iv'e taken the male out tonight and put 30 ghost shrimp in. Female has become more active since i moved male out swimming a lot at the surface. I noticed she has 2 sores (one each corner of her mouth) Almost look like cold sores. Couldn't get pics and didn't want to stress her out. Any ideas? I'm wondering if he caught her with his stinger when she was biting him for food. I've added Salt and turned lights off.

Suggestions?

Tank has lots of aeration -1 air stone and both outflows of Fluvals exit at water surface givin lots of air exchange. Air stone is set up under Fluvals outflows. I've had them in this tank since a month old and haven't changed anything.

Local Pet Store is out of live black worms or I would feed her some.

That was a week ago. They are both eating fine now and have been since I put a divider in the tank. Female has healed up. I think she caught his stinger while chasing him around for food.

Keep in mind these are "mini" rays as full grown adults are only 12". At 8 months old they are around 5-6". I've had motoro pups that size at a couple months. That is why I stated I will only sell to an experience ray keeper as they are not starter rays.

I have some rays coming in that I'm importing in early Jan and would like to free up some tank space. If they don't sell it's not a big deal. I thought I would offer them and see the response.

I've never had any problems with them before and i got them at a month old when they were only 2-3" in diameter. Calgaryflames has been over and watched them eat. He almost bought them but we didn't agree on a price.
