So my boesemani likes to curl up and rear up as if it’s yawning. Has anyone experienced this before, or is there something else I should be looking for.

Water quality is perfect and no aggression in the tank. Water temp is between 77 and 79. She likes to eat last, doesn’t care too much to have the other rays on her so she just swims off. This isn’t something new just kinda curious if anybody else has heard, seen or experiences this behavior.

this last picture is how you’ll see her 80% of the time. Very rarely do she lay completely flat.

It looks quite alarming to me how curled up she is. Those first 2 pics are pretty exaggerated curls at the back end. Especially if she rests with her back end curling like that. Are you able to separate her?

how long have you had her? If she is eating that is a good sign, but sluggish eating is usually a sign of decline.

77-79 is super cold in my opinion. I keep my rays at 80-82 and they don’t seem to do well below 80 typically.

I have not personally kept boesmani, but I have heard many stories of female boes being very sensitive. Not many seem to make it to maturity. There are a few exceptions to the rule of course.

She is going on 3 years old now. She has been doing this for about a year now. She is eating normally

Wow. That is crazy.

she doesn’t look that big from the pictures.

if she is still eating, maybe that’s just her thing she does ?? Very interesting.

I’ve seen some rays that go inverted and float in a cup shape at the top, just for something to do, then go eat as soon as food is dropped in. Non of the other rays in the tank would do that just the one. It was freaky to watch at first.

She’s is roughly 10” to 11” in disc diameter. It is really crazy to watch and sometimes very alarming. But she eats good and isn’t temperamental. All of them eat anything I put in the tank (shrimp, tilapia, scallops, worms, goldfish, pellets) I have noticed that since her last barb shed it hasn’t come back. Is there a possibility that it’s growing in her tail causing the curling.
