Stingray in 75?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There's no stingray available that I'm aware of that can stay in a 75 gallon tank for it's entire life.

But it may be possible to keep a small stingray pup such as a cortez for a little while - maybe til it reachs about 6" dw - depending of the exact dimensions of the tank.

I agree. There is no ray out there that would be happy for life in a 75. The disk simply grows too large. If the ray were alone in the tank, I would think you could house it until the disk is about 10 inches. It would probably be best to relocate it to a larger tank much sooner though. Don't be inclined to pick up the smallest ray you can find under the rationale that this way you could keep it longer. Small rays are often much more delicate to deal with.

The Cortez reachs a disc width of 10" with total length of 16". And I wouldn't consider keep one for it's life, in any tank smaller than a standard 180 gallon (72" L x 24" W x 24" D). And even a 180 might be too small.

well i have another 75 with a volitan lionfish, a niger trigger, dogface puffer, koran angelfish and huma huma trigger. So something on the peaceful side. It already has 2 clownfish and a flamefin tang. I am not sure whatelse I am going to put it in yet.
