Does play sand or swimming pool filter sand have sharp edges? I'm having trouble finding This Estes medium broadcast that I've heard about. Can you send me pics? I'd like to see what it looks like before I buy a bunch of it for my new 240.

Thanks

Pat

Play sand is about as soft as it gets imo. At least the sand I have is. Not sure about pool filter sand. Hmmm, under the pleco section you can get a glimps of what it looks like i think. "My new Royal buddy" or something like that. I think you can see a little there.

You have to be real careful when using different types of sands and stingrays. I believe pool sand is safe, but there are many threads on this question. You really need to be careful of silica in the sand that will scrape your ray and possibly kill it.

Im using play sand from the home depot.... you really need to clean it before use, there is so much dust in it that will cloud up the tank, but once cleaned it looks great and my ray loves it

i use a small pebble gravel much better and less work to keep clean

I use Estes Ultra Reef sand. You should be able to find some online stores that sell it.

x2. Estes sand or CaribSea's Torpedo Beach and Peace River (the kind I use in all of my stingray tanks). I suggest Peace River with smooth river stones, but that is just me. It looks so natural, and it makes this awesome sound when they blow in it looking for food! It is small enough that they can still bury themselves in it, but at the same time it is really easy to clean. I've used sand- it does work, but I would never go back. (If you're ever in the DC/Baltimore area, I've got a 50 gallon bucket full of Estes Reef sand; I'm sure Ashley wouldn't mind if I gave you some. :) )

EDIT: What a retarded thing to say, lol. You are in London.

Estes Medium Broadcast is same as the Estes Aquarium sands. The difference is the price. Medium Broadcast will be anywhere from 1/3 to 1/5 the price of the Estes Aquarium sands.

Here are a few pics of the Estes Medium Broadcast.
