Ok I have a few questions for the setup I am doing. I have a 280gal tank that is plumbed to the basement sump. The total water volume is around 600 gal. I want to keep a few stingrays in the bottom and maybe an arowana. I don’t know what else I can put in that wont pick on the rays but will swim in the middle of the tank. What do you all think will work? My next question is do you all run uv sterilizers on your systems? I don’t want to spend the money on one if I don’t need it.

Guessing we are talking about a tank with a footprint around 72"x30". If so your setup would be fine for a couple rays for a while, but you will have to upgrade eventually. Even for hystrix and retics that would be a little on the small side when they are full grown.

As to UV sterilizers your going to get mixed opinions. I run them on all my ponds, helps keep the water clear and hopefully kills any harmful bacteria so why not. That said you don't have to have one, allot of people do just fine without them.

i personally don't run uv on my tanks. my ray tank never has algae issues. the only tank that does is my small 60g that sits at the window collecting morningg/afternoon sun, which i don't even mind really and clean it off when water change time comes.

i know they can be useful, but it is just something i have not gotten into yet. maybe one day i'll try one out.

Wildman I'm in Ohio as well. I don't run an uv on my ray tank. I don't see the need for one but it wouldn't hurt anything if it makes you more comfortable. Pm me if your interested in any motoroxmarble pups.

I've kept several fish with mine but currently only have a severum and an African scat. There's a large variety of fish that are compatible with rays just make sure they aren't too small or they may get eaten. Also avoid highly aggressive cichlids or other fish that may pick at the rays.

we keep arowanas, peacock bass and siam/indo tigerfish and a tigrinus cat with some of our rays and also have a young flagtail growing on these can be good also
