I want to get a motoro stingray for an 8 by 3 by 4 foot tank (about 720 gallons), my question is, is that big enough for one Ray? And can I keep a couple of tire track eels with them (both about 18 inches)
The Ray will be about 6 inches in disc diameter when it is put with the eels and as the Ray grows, the eels would have become much larger plus I will also provide big caves with small openings so the eels can go through and the Ray can't fit, to protect the eels from the Ray. Would this setup work? I will be getting the biggest canister filter in the shop for filtration.
And if this will work, just to add life to the top of the tank and not just the bottom, could I manage to house a silver arowana in the same tank?

Yes it would work most likely. Eels and rays have been kept together. An arowana for the top seems like a great idea. With a tank that large you could keep a few more fish and 2 rays easy. Filtration will be the key of course. Not sure what canister filter you are thinking about but I hope your thinking about an ultima 2 canister. Peacock bass are another good option. Frontosa. Geos. Any of these can work really well with some places to hide and look great.

Ditto. On the fish. Your going to want 4000-8000 gph of flow.

Look into a sump filter. I would not recommend snakehead or lung fish.

A big tank will never be big enough.

Can someone explain to me exactly what a sump filter is? Like what do you put in the chambers? How does a sump filter the water differently than a canister filter?

I am planning to keep this tank long term which means the rays will become adults and all the fish will have to live with each other. After about 3 years, when the rays have grown, how many could the tank sustain? I don't think more than two.
