Hi! I have a new tank installed in my house and really want to get a sting ray (had one some 20 years ago) I know my tank size is not ideal but was wondering if it would work at least for a year or two then I can always transfer them to a friend of mine who has a larger tank.
It is very tall which I know arent great for stingrays, but was wondering if these measurmants would be ok. Will have excellent filtration.

42" High
50 length
26 wide

(approx 240 gallons)

Thank You!

High tanks don't bother stingray at all, it is usually just volume that you can't use for more surface. The bottom area your tank offers is pretty small for most Stingray.

I think you can raise small pups for a year or until they reach a 20-25cm disc in that, asuming the bottom area is free, but they will, depending on the species growthrate, outgrow it eventually.

I don't know about the market in the US, but in germany, due to animals sometimes spending years at the seller being feed bloodworms or some just being born as runts that don't grow well, you occasionally can come across an animal that does not grow much beyond 20cm. The smallest I ever saw was a Scobina that never grew after birth and a reticulatus that maxed out and matured at 15cm disc. If you can find some animal like that and give it a nice home it would be perfect, but for regular Stingray, even if it is just temporal, I would recommend something bigger. And I saw these animals in a span of many years being many places, so I would not count on finding something like that. This is very anecdotal experience.
